Calling all Toujin members! The Japanese Studies Department wants YOU! JSP Week, the Nihon Festival, is coming this
September 7-11, 2009.The Japanese Department is in need of volunteers to aid them in the following activities:
Furoshiki DemonstrationFor those who don't know, Furoshiki is the traditional Japanese art of cloth wrapping. It's often used to make pretty wrappings for gifts or even lunchboxes!
Origami Interactive DemonstrationThe traditional Japanese art of paper folding. It's a classic. Learn to fold more than just those little paper cranes!
Onigiri Interactive DemonstrationLove to eat? Well, try your hand at making these Japanese rice balls! Onigiri are fun to eat, and just as much fun to make.
Be part of these demonstrations and teach others! Please sign up at the Japanese Studies Department, 2nd Floor, Leong Hall. Or get in touch with Francesca Ventura; she's free on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30-6:00pm at the department.
KARAOKE CONTEST ELIMINATIONS!As part of the culminating event, a Karaoke Contest will be held!
The Eliminations will be on September 2, 2009, Wednesday.
It will be held from 3:00-6:00pm, at Soc Sci Conference Rooms 1 and 2.
Don't forget: your chosen song must be Japanese! Bring a copy of the instrumental of your song, and be prepared to sing your heart out.
Photo Haiku Contest!A Haiku is composed of three lines, following a pattern of five-seven-five.
The challenge: Take a photo, and compose your Haiku. You may write in English, Filipino, or Nihonggo.
Your image, along with your haiku, must be the size of an Oslo paper, 9 x 12 inches.
The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 7, 2009. 12 noon at the Japanese Studies Department.Watch out for more announcements regarding JSP Week!
